MY BIO
I was born and raised in Cairo [care-oh] Illinois, a small farming/river industry town on the southwestern border of the state. Following high school, I moved to Nashville to attend Tennessee State University. I majored in English Literature. While at T.S.U., I also studied Business Administration as well as taking some classes in the Music Business department at Belmont University. I'm a sometime aspiring songwriter and former competitive bodybuilder.
My journey into photography began--and continues--on the opposite side of the camera. Six years ago, I began figure modeling for various Nashville artists. In a relatively short time, I gained a reputation as an exceptional model among local figure drawing and paint artists. Along the way, I made a few forays into photographic modeling. "Much easier work," thought I! In 2000, this developed talent, and some scanned photographic figure studies by a friend, took me to a national level of art and physique modeling--with invitations to pose for photographers such as Jeff Palmer [still to be scheduled].
Having always had a creative mind and eye, I watched the best photographers for technique and paid attention to major market industry standards. My entry to "the other side" of the camera was acceleratied by my development of a male fitness model promotion site called Creative Bodies. Several of the mid-south area models that were interested in appearing on my site were lacking in industry standard fitness/physique images. I decided that i could emulate the style and learn the technique--at least until they were able to get more experienced. It worked. My images were immediately accepted as professional and acceptably industry standard. Fitness/physique modeling combines elements of body/athletic, fashion, and commercial art genres. The combination of my artistic sense, the industry knowledge, and a talent for digital editing took me on the microwave track to development of my craft. Along the way, I've developed relationships with nationally-known photographers--some with prestigious degrees and others with over 20 years of experience. I'm already listed as a photographer on 3 national major model sites besides my own; and have worked with or have scheduled to work with models from all over the U.S. and Canada.
MY IMAGERY
I'm still developing my technique and am very open to working with models near me (or who are willing to travel to me) as well as in cities where I travel who are open to style experimentation. So I also don't limit myself to Tennessee--I travel. As you'll see when you scan through my site, I'm not limited by my area of specialty. I am open to work with women, children, and even still life from my own skewed perspective. I'd also like to get more involved in performing artist portraits, media packages, CD covers, and advertising.
I work in digital and tradional 35mm formats. The length of a shoot depends on the combination of studio and location work--1 to 2 hours is normal. I do not charge separately for digital editing time--unless the project requires special editing. I typically provide images in digital form on CD, diskette or by email. [Digital images can be printed as photo-quality copies or can be used on a website presentation--which I can also set up for a client.] Traditional slides or prints may also be provided upon request--depending on the original medium.
I hope you like what you find here; and that you choose to work with me for your photographic needs. I'm sure we can do great things together!
Thanks,
Barry
